Concrete Driveways, Built for Toronto

A concrete driveway in Toronto has to stand up to freeze-thaw winters, road salt and heavy clay soil. We pour driveways that handle all three, and we back every job with a 5-year workmanship warranty.

5-Year Workmanship Warranty 100% Satisfaction Guarantee Free, No-Pressure Quotes

Most driveway calls we get in Toronto start the same way. The old asphalt is cracked and sinking, a slab poured decades ago has heaved at the joints, or a narrow mutual drive beside a century semi has crumbled down to gravel. Toronto winters are hard on driveways. Water finds every small crack, freezes, expands and pries the surface apart a little more each year. Add road salt and clay soil that holds water, and a concrete driveway in Toronto that was not built properly simply does not last.

We pour concrete driveways across the city, from tight east end lots to the wider pads in front of postwar bungalows up north. Concrete costs more than asphalt up front, but poured and finished correctly it outlasts asphalt by decades and needs far less upkeep along the way. This page covers our driveway work inside Toronto itself. For the GTA-wide picture, see our main concrete driveways page.

What's included in a new concrete driveway

Every driveway we pour follows the same steps, with no shortcuts on the parts you never see. That is where driveways fail, so that is where we spend the time.

  • Tear-out and disposal. We remove the old asphalt or concrete and haul it away.
  • Excavation and base. We dig to proper depth and compact a granular base so the slab sits on solid ground, not soft clay.
  • Forms and grading. We set forms and slope the pour so water runs away from your foundation and toward the street.
  • Reinforcement. Wire mesh or rebar where the site calls for it.
  • Air-entrained concrete. An exterior-rated mix that stands up to freeze-thaw cycles and salt.
  • Control joints and finish. Joints cut in the right places to manage cracking, with a broom finish for grip or another finish if you prefer.
  • Curing guidance. Clear instructions on when you can walk on it, when you can park on it, and how to care for it in year one.

Concrete driveways for Toronto lots and Toronto winters

Older Toronto neighbourhoods bring their own challenges. Century semis in the east end often share a mutual drive barely wide enough for a car, with the house wall on one side and a fence on the other. There is no room for big machinery in there, so we bring compact equipment and do the tight sections by hand. Corner lots and newer builds have the opposite problem, longer pours that need well-placed joints and consistent finishing to read as one clean surface.

Winter is the real test of any driveway in this city. Toronto swings through dozens of freeze-thaw cycles each season, and the clay under much of the city holds water right where it does the most damage. That is why we compact a proper granular base for drainage, pour an air-entrained exterior mix and cut control joints where the slab wants to crack anyway. We will also tell you honestly how to treat a new slab through its first winter, including which de-icers to keep off it.

Driveway projects often grow once the forms come out. If your front steps are crumbling too, we can pour new concrete steps in Toronto in the same visit. Planning a parking pad or a seating area behind the house? Our concrete patios in Toronto get the same base prep and the same warranty.

Concrete driveway questions, answered

With a properly compacted base and an air-entrained exterior mix, a concrete driveway in Toronto often lasts 25 to 30 years or more. Asphalt in the same conditions usually needs replacing in half that time. Most of the lifespan is decided before the pour, in the base prep and drainage.
You can usually walk on it after 24 to 48 hours. We ask you to keep vehicles off for at least 7 days so the slab can build enough strength. Concrete keeps gaining strength for about a month, and we leave you simple care instructions for those first weeks.
We pour an air-entrained mix made for Canadian exteriors, compact a solid granular base so water drains instead of pooling under the slab, and cut control joints so any movement happens where we plan it, not across the middle of your driveway. We also suggest skipping harsh de-icing salts in the first winter.
Yes. Tear-out and disposal of the old asphalt or concrete is part of the job. We include it in your written quote up front so there are no surprise charges on demolition day.
Roughly April through November, depending on the weather. Concrete needs above-freezing temperatures to cure properly, so we schedule pours around cold snaps. If you get your quote over the winter, we can hold a spot for an early spring pour.
