Why parging and concrete belong together

Parging and concrete flatwork are two sides of the same trade. Both start with a cement-based mix, both depend on honest surface prep, and both live or die by how they cure. Before we parge a wall we scrape off anything loose, clean the surface and apply a bonding agent so the new coat grips the old masonry instead of sitting on top of it. Then we keep the coat damp while it cures, because a parge coat that dries too fast will crack early. The same discipline applies to a driveway or a set of steps: proper base, proper mix, proper cure time.
